AN ACT Relating to unlisted or unpublished telephone numbers; and adding a new section to chapter 80.36 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 80.36 RCW to read as follows:

          The utilities and transportation commission shall by rule prohibit telecommunications companies from disclosing any unlisted or unpublished telephone number, or any telephone number not generally available to the public, to any person or organization except pursuant to court order, or in the case of an emergency.  The utilities and transportation commission shall adopt standards for the release of unlisted or unpublished telephone numbers in an emergency.
