AN ACT Relating to smoking on school district property; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.58 RCW; and creating a new section.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.58 RCW to read as follows:

          Each school district board of directors shall adopt a written policy prohibiting tobacco use by students and staff on school district property and in school district vehicles.  No policy prohibiting tobacco use shall be required for alternative schools, institutional education programs, and juvenile detention centers.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.     Each school district board of directors shall submit a written report on compliance with the provisions of section 1 of this act to the legislature prior to the legislative session commencing in 1991.
