AN ACT Relating to motor vehicle emission control; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The department of ecology shall investigate the following issues and present its findings to the legislature by January 1, 1991:

          (1) The health effects of emissions from diesel-powered vehicles;

          (2) The contribution to the degradation of air quality from diesel-powered vehicles in Washington;

          (3) Available procedures to identify excessive emissions from diesel-powered vehicles; and

          (4) The department's best estimate for the cost and cost-effectiveness of implementing a state program for identifying excessive emissions, if any, from diesel-powered vehicles and for requiring corrective action by the vehicle owners.
