AN ACT Relating to a study by the state board of education regarding the elimination of the undergraduate degree in education; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     (1) As part of the scheduled state board of education study on the impact of eliminating the undergraduate major in education, the board shall consider whether to exempt preschool through eighth grade teachers from the requirement that all individuals qualifying for an initial-level teaching certificate after August 31, 1992, shall possess a baccalaureate degree in the arts, sciences, and/or humanities and shall have fulfilled the requirements for teacher certification pursuant to RCW 28A.04.120 (1) and (2).

          (2) This section shall expire on January 15, 1990.
