AN ACT Relating to the care and delivery of human remains; adding a new section to chapter 68.50 RCW; and repealing RCW 68.50.030.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 68.50 RCW to read as follows:
Whenever a coroner or medical examiner assumes jurisdiction over human remains and directs the human remains to be transported by a funeral establishment, as defined in RCW 18.39.010, to a location other than the funeral establishment's facilities, the reasonable costs of transporting the human remains to the specified location shall be borne by the county of jurisdiction.
Except as provided in RCW 36.39.030, 68.52.030, and 73.08.070, any transportation costs or other costs incurred after the coroner or medical examiner has released jurisdiction over the human remains shall not be borne by the county.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. Section 5, chapter 90, Laws of 1917 and RCW 68.50.030 are each repealed.
