AN ACT Relating to the impact of disposing of wastes in agricultural areas; creating a new section; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The director of the department of agriculture shall provide for conducting a study on the potential impact of applying sludge from sewage treatment plants on agricultural lands and the impact of locating and operating refuse incinerators in agricultural production areas.  The impacts to be studied shall include, but not be limited to, the impact of these activities on agricultural production and on marketing agricultural products from areas in which such activities are conducted.  The director shall ensure that technical assistance in conducting the study is secured from Washington State University.  The director shall submit a report regarding the results of the study, including any legislative recommendations, to the agriculture and rural development committee of the house of representatives and the agriculture committee of the senate by January 1, 1991.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     The sum of thirty-five thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated from the general fund to the department of agriculture for the biennium ending June 30, 1991, to carry out the purposes of this act.
