AN ACT Relating to higher education textbooks; and adding a new section to chapter 28B.10 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28B.10 RCW  to read as follows:

          (1) After June 30, 1991, institutions of higher education shall use in their classes only textbooks that:

          (a) Have been made accessible to students with visual and learning disabilities; and

          (b) Upon request, will be supplied by the publisher to a student or an institution of higher education on tape or on a computer disk at a cost that does not exceed the retail cost of the published textbook.

          (2) This section shall not be interpreted to modify or limit any copyright rights for textbooks provided under this section.
