AN ACT Relating to jet aircraft emissions; and creating new sections.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The legislature finds that citizens residing near airports are exposed to exhaust emissions from jet aircraft, and that such emissions are noticeable from significant distances.  The legislature also finds that continuous exposure to aircraft exhaust emissions may pose significant adverse health effects.  The legislature therefore declares that a study shall be conducted to assess potential health effects of jet aircraft exhaust emissions and to identify practices that can reduce such emissions.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     The department of ecology shall conduct a study of jet aircraft exhaust emissions at airports in order to determine the:

          (1) Potential for adverse health effects to nearby residents;

          (2) Existing or potential practices available to reduce and/or mitigate jet aircraft exhaust emissions at airports; and

          (3) Need for monitoring of jet aircraft emissions.
