AN ACT Relating to in-service training for teachers and principals; adding a new section to Title 28A RCW; and making an appropriation.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to Title 28A RCW to read as follows:
(1) The revitalization in-service training grant program is created to provide in-service training grants to school districts wishing to upgrade the skills of their teachers and principals in effective teaching techniques, effective management and leadership skills, cooperative decision making, development of a school or district goals for education, and the development of procedures, skills, and materials necessary to implement steps to achieve the goals.
(2) Districts wishing to apply for a revitalization in- service training grant shall submit an application outlining the type of program that will be provided, the number of staff expected to participate, the source of instruction or assistance that will be used to reach the objectives of the in-service program, timelines for implementation, and cost of the program.
(3) The superintendent of public instruction may develop rules to implement the program established in this section.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. The sum of two million dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1991, from the general fund to the superintendent of public instruction to implement section 1 of this act.
