AN ACT Relating to security measures in apartments; and adding a new section to chapter 19.27 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 19.27 RCW to read as follows:

          Exit doors from individual dwelling units of group R, division 1 occupancies shall be provided with a dead bolt, provided that such device may be opened from the inside without the use of a key or tool or special knowledge and mounted at a height not to exceed forty-eight inches above the finished floor.  This provision shall apply to new dwelling units scheduled for first occupancy after July 1, 1990, and to existing dwelling units that have undergone additions, alterations or repairs after July 1, 1990.
