!ae480WHEREAS, P.J. "Jim" Gallagher serves the twenty-ninth Legislative District of the state of Washington in Pierce County; and

          WHEREAS, P.J. "Jim" Gallagher has served in the Washington State House of Representatives since his election in 1960; and

          WHEREAS, During his fifteen terms of service in the House of Representatives, P.J. "Jim" Gallagher has distinguished himself through his service in the areas of energy, transportation, natural resources, and the House Rules Committee; and

          WHEREAS, P.J. "Jim" Gallagher was educated at Washington State University; and

          WHEREAS, During his career, P.J. "Jim" Gallagher has served his community through the Knights of Columbus, the Eagles, and the Lions Club; and

          WHEREAS, P.J. "Jim" Gallagher and his wonderful wife, Mabel, were married in Ephrata on June 28, 1939; and

          WHEREAS, P.J. "Jim" Gallagher was instrumental in helping to secure construction of the interchange at 72nd Street and I-5 in the city of Tacoma; and

          WHEREAS, That interchange provides benefits to the quality of life, mobility, and general well-being of the citizens utilizing the interchange;

          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the House of Representatives of the state of Washington, the Senate concurring, That the Washington State Legislature recognize and extend its best wishes to a very respected and well-liked member for his abilities and accomplishments; and

          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Washington State Transportation Commission commence proceedings to change the name of Bridge Number five/four hundred twenty-six across State Route Number 5 at 72nd Street in Pierce County to the "P.J. Gallagher Overpass;" and

          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the ceremony to dedicate this change take place on June 28, 1989, to coincide with the fiftieth wedding anniversary date of Mabel and P.J. "Jim" Gallagher; and

          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable inscribed copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the Washington State Transportation Commission and to Representative Gallagher and his wife, Mabel.
