HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 4430

State of Washington 51st Legislature 1990 Regular Session

WHEREAS, The Marine Corps League, a national organization, is made up of dedicated marines, who now serve their nation through community service, helping others in ways of peace; and
WHEREAS, The nine detachments of the Marine Corps League in the state of Washington help all children and adults, of any race, religion, or creed; and
WHEREAS, The Marine Corps League works all year to make Toys-for-Tots a state-wide success, is involved in helping the Special Olympics Leisure Time at Fort Lewis, and is instrumental in creating a video library for the children and adults of the Hospice programs; and
WHEREAS, Recognition of the Marine Corps League would serve our state well, reminding all of us of the investment of time that these good people make, both during times of war and times of peace; and
WHEREAS, State Route 3 is a conduit for people across the Puget Sound region, connecting civilians with military personnel, both active and retired; and
WHEREAS, Honoring the Marines of the United States, and recognizing their efforts through the Marine Corps League, by naming State Route 3 in their honor, would be a kind and fitting tribute to the Marine Corps;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the House of Representatives of the State of Washington, the Senate concurring, The Washington State Legislature recognizes the dedication of those individuals who participate in community service through the Marine Corps League; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That The Washington State Transportation Commission commence proceedings to designate State Route 3 as The Marine Corps Memorial Highway; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable inscribed copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the Washington State Transportation Commission and to the nine detachments of the Marine Corps League of the state of Washington.
