TO THE TACOMA CITY COUNCIL, AND TO THE SEATTLE CITY COUNCIL, AND TO THE MAYOR OF TACOMA, DOUG SUTHERLAND, AND TO THE MAYOR OF SEATTLE, CHARLES ROYER, AND TO THE PIERCE COUNTY EXECUTIVES, AND TO THE KING COUNTY EXECUTIVES, AND TO THE BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS OF TACOMA AND SEATTLE, AND TO THE TACOMA-PIERCE COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, AND TO THE GREATER SEATTLE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE:

          We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:

          WHEREAS, Ice hockey has come to be regarded in the Puget Sound area as an entertaining and exciting sport through the thrilling play of the semiprofessional Seattle Thunderbirds; and

          WHEREAS, The Thunderbirds have shown that ice hockey has popular support in the King and Pierce county areas; and

          WHEREAS, Every major professional sport, except ice hockey, is represented in the Seattle-Tacoma area; and

          WHEREAS, The public in this region has convincingly shown that it can and will enthusiastically and financially support professional sports; and

          WHEREAS, Metropolitan areas both larger and smaller than Seattle and Tacoma successfully support thriving National Hockey League franchises across America; and

          WHEREAS, A National Hockey League expansion team in the Seattle-Tacoma area would bolster the region's economy, increase tourism, and enhance the area's prestige;

          NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully pray that the Tacoma and Seattle city councils and the Pierce and King county councils, the mayors of Tacoma and Seattle, the Pierce and King county executives, and the business and community leaders of Tacoma and Seattle, Pierce and King counties prepare and coordinate a strategy to secure a National Hockey League expansion franchise within the next three years; and

          BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this memorial be immediately transmitted to the Tacoma City Council, and to the Seattle City Council, and to the Mayor of Tacoma, Doug Sutherland, and to the Mayor of Seattle, Charles Royer, and to the Pierce county executives, and to the King county executives, and to the business and community leaders of Tacoma and Seattle, and to the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce, and to the greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce.
