TO THE HONORABLE GEORGE BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, AND TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AND TO THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES, IN CONGRESS ASSEMBLED:
We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:
WHEREAS, Washington is one of three western states represented by the Tri-State Highway 101 Council and has unique scenic resources of recognized national interest; and
WHEREAS, Improved transportation links would provide full access to these resources from all regions of the United States and foreign nations; and
WHEREAS, Washington, Oregon, and California are in concert to provide this access via development of the Pacific Coast Highway Corridor in order to protect the environmental scenic beauty, enhance public safety, and provide economic development; and
WHEREAS, A proposed nine million dollar federal highway grant to provide a consensus plan would improve access by planning an effective transportation link referred to as the Pacific Coast Highway Corridor following the general alignment of Highway 101; and
WHEREAS, This planning grant may lead to funding a major highway improvement project of national significance;
NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully encourage that strategies be developed that will provide a Pacific Coast Highway Corridor consensus plan that has in it the promise of federal highway funding, beginning in 1991.
BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately transmitted to the Honorable George Bush, President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and each member of Congress from the State of Washington.
