AN ACT Relating to state representative trade offices; and creating new sections.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The directors of the departments of agriculture and trade and economic development shall study their operations in their Tokyo, Japan, offices, using the following criteria: (1) How effective have colocation procedures been in saving dollars; (2) can buying foreign currency forward be accomplished and will it save general fund appropriations; (3) is further cooperation with other states or other Washington state agencies an effective way to further reduce costs of operating the Tokyo office; and (4) any other criteria which the directors feel the legislature would be interested in.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. The directors shall report to the standing committee of reference no later than the first day of the regular session in 1990 on their findings based on the study conducted under section 1 of this act. Such report shall also include any specific legislative and administrative proposals needed to carry out the recommendations. If any such administrative proposals can be carried out prior to the release of the report and can effect measurable cost savings, the directors may carry them out and report on their implementation in the legislative report.
