AN ACT Relating to annual meetings among governing bodies of the state's education system; adding a new section to chapter 28A.02 RCW; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.02 RCW to read as follows:

          The superintendent of public instruction, the president of the state board of education or a member other than the president selected by the board if the president is the superintendent of public instruction, the executive director of the state board of education, the chair and the executive director of the state board for vocational education within the governor's office, the president of the Washington state association of school directors and the executive director of the association, the director of the department of community development and a member of the early childhood education and assistance program advisory board, the chair of the higher education coordinating board and the executive director of the board, a member of the council of presidents designated by the council and the executive director of the council, and the president and executive director of the state board for community college education shall all meet together at least once each year.  By January 30 of each year, a time and place for the meeting shall be established by mutual agreement.  Topics considered at the meeting shall include but not be limited to the following:

          (1) Issues of common interest and mutual concern;

          (2) The interrelation between the different sectors of the state's education system;

          (3) The relationship between the goals and purposes of the common school system identified by the state board of education and the goals and missions for higher education as identified by the higher education coordinating board;

          (4) Establishing an annual review of the performance of college students and providing that information to the applicable school districts from which those students graduated; and

          (5) Identification of common areas for joint long-range planning.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     The code reviser shall place cross-reference sections to section 1 of this act in chapters 28A.03, 28A.04, 28A.61, 28B.50, 28B.80, and 43.06 RCW.
