AN ACT Relating to bottom trawling of shrimp; and amending RCW 75.12.390.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

        Sec. 1.  Section 1, chapter 172, Laws of 1989 and RCW 75.12.390 are each amended to read as follows:

          Commercial bottom trawling for food fish and shellfish  is unlawful in all areas of Hood Canal south of a line projected from Tala Point to Foulweather Bluff and in Puget Sound south of a line projected from Foulweather Bluff to Double Bluff and including all marine waters east of Whidbey Island and Camano Island.  The department may authorize bottom trawl fisheries for shrimp in areas of Puget Sound north of a line projected from Apple Cove Point to Edwards Point in waters deeper than thirty fathoms except within one-half mile of shore.  Legal bottom trawling gear for shrimp in Puget Sound shall not exceed twenty feet in width across the front opening of the bottom trawl.
