AN ACT Relating to consumer credit reporting; adding a new section to chapter 19.134 RCW; creating a new section; and prescribing penalties.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The legislature finds that consumers and businesses are being denied credit or experiencing credit difficulties on a routine basis due to reporting of other's credit problems on their credit reports.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 19.134 RCW to read as follows:

          (1) Credit services organizations shall use, in addition to any other identifying information, a buyer's social security number, federal taxpayer information number, or other positive identification system to avoid confusion with other buyers' credit reports.

          (2) The failure to comply with subsection (1) of this section constitutes an unfair or deceptive act or practice in violation of chapter 19.86 RCW.
