TO THE HONORABLE GEORGE BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, AND TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AND TO THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES, IN CONGRESS ASSEMBLED, AND TO THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE:

          We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:

          WHEREAS, The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission has established a policy of not extinguishing a park fire if the fire has been started by a natural incendiary; and

          WHEREAS, State park fires which are allowed to burn can cause millions of dollars in damage; and

          WHEREAS, State park fires which are allowed to burn cause harmful smoke pollution; and

          WHEREAS, State park fires which are allowed to burn cause dangerous visibility problems for drivers; and

          WHEREAS, State park fires which are allowed to burn cause particulate fallout which can have adverse impacts on our rivers, lakes, and streams;

          NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully pray that the Washington State Legislature, the Congress of the United States, and the National Park Service oppose the policy of allowing a park fire to burn without containment.

          BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately transmitted to the Honorable George Bush, President of the United States, the National Park Service, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and each member of Congress from the State of Washington.
