In any building with more than one elevator, numbers at least 2 in. in height identifying each car shall be located at the main lobby entrance, inside the car, on the machine, and on the disconnect switch and if the conveyance has a walk-in pit, numbers shall also be installed on the buffer stands. Elevators installed in compliance with ASME A17.1/CSA B44, 2.29 are exempt from this rule.
