(1) Effective July 1, 2012, on-the-job training is a method of training where the long-term care worker successfully demonstrates in the 70-hour home care aide basic training, the core competencies for personal care or infection control skills while working with a client on the job, instead of in a practice training setting.
(2) A qualified instructor as described in WAC
388-71-1055, provides on-the-job training and directly observes, coaches, and reinforces skills training for up to two long-term care workers at a time. The qualified instructor who provides the on-the-job training:
(a) Need not be the instructor who taught the core competency training; and
(b) May be the immediate supervisor in a home care agency of the long-term care worker receiving this training.
(3) The person who oversees on-the-job training must:
(a) Submit DSHS required forms and become an approved instructor for the core competency of basic training;
(b) Verify on a DSHS approved skills checklist or other department approved form, the long-term care worker's successful completion of the demonstrated skills; and
(c) Not relinquish required duties to trainee caregivers when acting as a trainer.
(4) The department must approve the number of on-the-job hours included in the 70-hour home care aide basic training.
