(1) Welding or cutting indoors or in confined spaces involving cadmium-bearing or cadmium-coated base metals must be done using local exhaust ventilation or airline respirators unless atmospheric tests under the most adverse conditions have established that employee exposure is within the acceptable concentrations defined by chapter
296-62 WAC. Outdoors, such operations must be done using respiratory protective equipment such as fume respirators approved by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for such purposes.
(2) Welding (brazing) involving cadmium-bearing filler metals must be done using ventilation as prescribed in WAC
296-307-50015 or
296-307-50017 if the work is to be done in a confined space.
