PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY

CRIMINAL JUSTICE

TRAINING COMMISSION

[ Filed May 19, 2003, 9:43 a.m. ]

Subject of Possible Rule Making: WAC 139-05-200 Requirement of basic law enforcement training.

Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 43.101.080.

Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: The change would provide consistency in training requirements for fully commissioned officers to attend the basic law enforcement academy. Currently, officers who are fully commissioned but work only part time are not required to attend the basic academy; however, they exercise the same authority as fully commissioned, full-time officers.

Process for Developing New Rule:       Negotiated rule making.

Interested parties can participate in the decision to adopt the new rule and formulation of the proposed rule before publication by contacting Sharon M. Tolton, Criminal Justice Training Commission, 19010 1st Avenue South, Burien, WA 98148-2055, phone (206) 835-7345, fax (206) 439-3860. Stakeholders were contacted by e-mail to advice of the intended rule amendments. Proposal also listed on the agency website.
