POLICY STATEMENT
Issuing Entity: Medical Quality Assurance Commission.
Subject Matter: Guidelines for practitioners providing office-based surgery.
Description: The office-based surgery (OBS) guidelines are intended to be an educational service for those already involved in OBS and for physicians contemplating establishment of such a service. Guidelines do provide a valuable service by promulgating a more exact awareness among physicians of OBS standards.
The overriding intent for this effort is to identify and define that which constitutes safe, high quality OBS practice so that allegations of violation and incidents of harm to patients can be kept to a minimum.
