PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY

     Subject of Possible Rule Making: A prohibition on night-hunting, with limited exceptions.

     Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 77.12.047.

     Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: Nighttime hunting poses greater risks to public safety than ever before, due to population growth and habitat loss. The department will limit nighttime hunting to very specific times and places, to better ensure the public's safety.

     Process for Developing New Rule:      Agency study.
