Title or Subject: Medicaid State Plan Amendment (SPA) 16-0004.

Effective Date: January 1, 2016.

Description: Covered over-the-counter (OTC) medications update.

The health care authority (HCA) intends to submit medicaid SPA 16-0004 in order to update the list of OTC medications covered for medicaid clients. HCA policy will remain the same, ensuring coverage of OTC medications determined by the agency to be the least costly alternative for a medically accepted indication. The proposed change will eliminate the list of specific drug classes in which coverage might occur in order to reduce the administrative burden of updating coverage as more products become available as OTC.

This SPA is anticipated to have no effect on annual aggregate expenditures.
