     On page 56 of the amendment, after line 9, insert:

     "NEW SECTION. Sec. 403.  A new section is added to chapter 82.04 RCW to read as follows:

     This chapter does not apply to persons engaging in business as physicians, dentists, osteopaths, chiropractors, optometrists, podiatrists, and other health practitioners whether or not licensed or certified, in respect to amounts received from the United States or any instrumentality thereof as payments for health care services provided under Title XVIII (medicare) or Title XIX (medicaid) of the federal social security act.  This section shall expire July 1, 1997."

EFFECT:  Exempts health care providers from B&O tax on medicare and medicaid receipts.
