     On page 1, line 30, after "days;" strike all the matter through "subsection" on page 2, line 10, and insert "and

(f) Has law enforcement experience evidenced by a certificate of completion of a basic law enforcement training program which complies with standards adopted by the criminal justice training commission pursuant to RCW 43.101.080.  Completion of the state patrol's academy shall constitute meeting the standards set by the criminal justice training commission.  Subsection (1)(f) does not apply to any person holding the office of sheriff in any county on September 1, 1994.

     On page 2, beginning on line 15, strike "this section shall be waived when there are no applicants" and insert "subsection 1(f) shall be waived when there are no applicants for appointment"

EFFECT:  Deletes the requirement that a person who runs for the office of sheriff have three years experience as a law enforcement officer and requires such a person to have law enforcement experience evidenced by completion of a basic law enforcement training program complying with the standards of the criminal justice training commission.
