    On page 17, after line l7 of the amendment, insert the following:

                             "PART IX.

                      SCHOOL ATTENDANCE BONUS

NEW SECTION. Sec. 32. A new section is added to chapter 74.12 RCW to read as follows:

    The legislature finds that regular school attendance, and obtaining a basic education, can lead to economic self-sufficiency.  School attendance is important for all Washington children, and of special importance to children receiving grant assistance, in order to break the cycle of dependency.

    As an incentive for regular school attendance, families receiving aid to families with dependent children grant assistance whose school-aged children do not violate the state's truancy laws during a specified school quarter shall receive a quarterly school attendance bonus of twenty-five dollars per child with good attendance.

    The office of the superintendent of public instruction shall provide to the department of social and health services, the attendance record for any child of an aid to families with dependant children household whose parent or guardian requests such information."

    Renumber the remaining parts and sections consecutively and correct internal references accordingly.

EFFECT:    Rewards AFDC recipients whose children are not truant with a $25 quarterly bonus.
