Background:  Reports of contributions and expenditures which must be filed under the public disclosure law for political campaigns must identify the name and address of each person who contributes more than $25 to the campaign.

 

Summary of Bill:   Additional information regarding contributors must be provided in a candidate's campaign reports filed under the disclosure law.  The reports must identify the occupation of each contributor who contributed more than $100 during an election cycle, the name of the contributor's employer, and the name or the employer of the contributor's spouse.  These requirements do not apply to reports of contributions made to a political committee the principal purpose of which is receiving contributions and making expenditures regarding one or more ballot measures.  The Public Disclosure Commission is barred from requiring such information for other contributions, but may seek it from contributors when conducting audits.
