BACKGROUND:

 

The Washington State Gambling Commission currently consists of five members who are appointed by the Governor with the consent of the Senate.

 

Under current law, a member of the Gambling Commission cannot: serve as an officer or manager of any corporation or organization which conducts lottery or gambling activity; receive or share in the gross profits of any gambling activity regulated by the commission; or be beneficially interested in any contract for the manufacture or sale of gambling devices, the conduct of a gambling activity or the provision of independent consultant services in connection with gambling activity.

 

SUMMARY:

 

No more than one member of the Gambling Commission may be a current holder of a gambling license or be otherwise involved in gambling-related business.  A member of the commission who holds a gambling license or is otherwise involved in a gambling related business must abstain from all commission votes that would directly benefit the member.
