AN ACT Relating to disclosures by institutions of higher education; adding a new section to chapter 28B.10 RCW; adding a new section to chapter 28C.10 RCW; and adding a new section to chapter 28B.85 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 28B.10 RCW to read as follows:
If a public or private institution of higher education operating in the state becomes financially unstable or is in danger of losing its accreditation status or having its accreditation status changed, the institution of higher education shall immediately disclose the investigation or inquiry by an accrediting association or any potential change in status to:
(1) All full-time and part-time students by individual written notice to the students; and
(2) The public by print, broadcast, and electronic media.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. A new section is added to chapter 28C.10 RCW to read as follows:
If a private vocational school operating in the state becomes financially unstable or is in danger of losing its accreditation status or having its accreditation status changed, the private vocational school shall immediately disclose the investigation or inquiry by an accrediting association or any potential change in status to:
(1) All full-time and part-time students by individual written notice to the students; and
(2) The public by print, broadcast, and electronic media.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 3. A new section is added to chapter 28B.85 RCW to read as follows:
If a diploma or degree-granting institution operating in the state becomes financially unstable or is in danger of losing its accreditation status or having its accreditation status changed, the diploma or degree-granting institution shall immediately disclose the investigation or inquiry by an accrediting association or any potential change in status to:
(1) All full-time and part-time students by individual written notice to the students; and
(2) The public by print, broadcast, and electronic media.
