AN ACT Relating to construction standards for temporary worker housing; creating a new section; and repealing RCW 19.27.078.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. (1) The state building code council shall conduct a study on methods to reduce the cost of rehabilitation or new construction of buildings and structures used as temporary worker housing. In conducting the study, the council shall recommend what requirements under RCW 19.27.031, as adopted and amended by the state building code council, can be reduced for temporary worker housing while still meeting the health, safety, and welfare of the occupants of the building or structure. The findings of the study shall be submitted in a written report to the appropriate legislative committees of the house of representatives and the senate no later than December 1, 1993.
(2) The study required under this section shall consider, but not be limited to: The period of the year when the temporary worker housing is expected to be occupied; the requirements needed to convert the temporary worker housing into housing that is occupied on a year round basis; and rules or regulations adopted by other states on temporary worker housing.
(3) As used in this section, "temporary worker housing" means a dwelling unit that is occupied by a person or household for less than six months of the year and is provided as a condition of employment.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. RCW 19.27.078 and 1989 c 266 s 4 & 1985 c 360 s 3 are each repealed.
