Reviewing classification structure for inmate custody.

          AN ACT Relating to criminal offenders; and adding a new section to chapter 72.02 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 72.02 RCW to read as follows:

          The secretary shall review the classification structure for establishing the custody levels of inmates in state correctional facilities.  The review shall take place every two years beginning in 1994.  As part of the review, the secretary shall seek technical assistance from the National Institute of Corrections.  The National Institute of Corrections is encouraged to evaluate the classification structure for the appropriate placement of inmates in state correctional facilities.  The secretary shall report on the inmate classification system to the house of representatives committee on corrections and the senate committee on law and justice every other legislative session beginning with the 1995 legislature.
