Revising benefit qualifications for surviving spouses under LEOFF.

    AN ACT Relating to benefits for surviving spouses under the law enforcement officers' and fire fighters' retirement system; and adding a new section to chapter 41.26 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 41.26 RCW to read as follows:

    A surviving spouse receiving benefits under RCW 41.26.160 due to the death of a spouse that occurred before October 1, 1977, and whose benefits have never been terminated due to remarriage before the effective date of this act, shall continue to receive such benefits as an eligible surviving spouse if the surviving spouse remarries on or after the effective date of this act.
