Providing medical aid benefits coverage for school district-sponsored, nonpaid, work-based learning experiences.

    AN ACT Relating to school district-sponsored, nonpaid, work-based learning experiences; and adding a new section to chapter 51.12 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 51.12 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) A person enrolled and participating in a school district-sponsored, nonpaid, work-based learning experience, shall be considered as "volunteers" as provided in RCW 51.12.035 and are subject to the applicable provisions of this title for the time spent in actual attendance at the nonpaid work-based experience.

    (2) A person who has earned wages for the time spent in participating in a school district-sponsored, nonpaid, work-based learning experience, is no longer considered a "volunteer."
