HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 93-4619, by Representatives Basich, Kessler, Jones, Leonard, Riley, Sheldon, Quall, Tate, Chappell, Carlson, Edmondson and Springer
WHEREAS, It is the policy of the Legislature to recognize excellence in all fields of endeavor; and
WHEREAS, John Elway has been named the National Football League Man of the Year for his efforts at raising over one million dollars for the care of children and prevention of child abuse through the John Elway Foundation; and
WHEREAS, The Elway family is from the Grays Harbor area, with John's parents Jack and Janet both coming from Hoquiam, Jack having graduated from Hoquiam High School; and
WHEREAS, John grew up in Grays Harbor while his father was the football coach at Grays Harbor Community College; and
WHEREAS, John starred at Stanford University and has been a consistent leader since 1983 with the Denver Broncos, winning many honors, directing numerous dramatic wins, and celebrating three American Football Conference championships with the Broncos; and
WHEREAS, John, his wife Janet, and their four children are outstanding citizens in the Denver area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and honor John Elway, the National Football League Man of the Year; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to John Elway and his family, the John Elway Foundation, and the National Football League.
