SENATE RESOLUTION

         WHEREAS,  The Educational Opportunity Resource Center in Tacoma provides educational opportunities for low-income, educationally disadvantaged students through its TRIO program; and

 

         WHEREAS, Tacoma's Educational Opportunity Resource Center has been providing these opportunities through the TRIO program and others since 1974; and

 

         WHEREAS, Career and educational opportunities are cornerstones in our efforts to help people help themselves out of poverty, and to provide alternatives to drugs and violence;

 

         NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Washington join the Congress of the United States and the City of Tacoma in declaring February 26, 1994, as TRIO Day; and

 

         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Washington declare its support of TRIO, the Educational Opportunity Resource Center of Tacoma, and all programs that give people the tools to craft their own success in life; and

 

         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the Educational Opportunity Resource Center in Tacoma.
