On page 1, line 12, after "routes." insert "A "school bus driver" also means a school employee or school contractor who, within the course of his or her employment or contact, operates a vehicle in which students are transported where: (1) the vehicle has a seating capacity of eight or more, including the driver, and (2) the transportation is to and from school-sponsored activities."
On page 2, after line 5, strike Section 2.
On page 2, after line 11, insert the following:
"NEW SECTION. Sec. 3. The sum of three hundred thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1997, from the general fund to the superintendent of public instruction to pay for training of school district employees necessitated by state licensing requirements for school activity drivers."
Renumber sections and correct the title accordingly.
EFFECT: Authorizes the State Board of Education to require driving permits for school employees and contractors who transport students to school-sponsored activities in vehicles with a capacity of eight or more. Deletes a requirement that school districts develop a policy regarding the transportation of students to school-sponsored activities. Appropriates $300,000 to SPI to pay for the training of school district employees who will need Type II authorizations.
