On page 64, after line 24, strike all matter through "July 1, 1996." on page 64, line 27 and insert the following:
"PART VI
MISCELLANEOUS
NEW SECTION. Sec. 601. The state shall take every reasonable step at its disposal to provide alternative employment and to minimize the economic loss to state employees affected by the elimination of the Washington state energy office. Affected state employees shall be paid benefits as specified in this section.
(1) Employees who do not choose to accept other employment with the state shall be provided two weeks (ten working days) of regular compensation for each one year of continuous state service, and continuation of medical benefits for twelve months following the employee's termination of state employment.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 602. Part headings used in this act do not constitute part of the law.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 603. This act shall take effect July 1, 1996.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 604. If specific funding for the purposes of section 601 of this act, referencing section 601 of this act by bill or chapter and section number, is not provided by June 30, 1996, in the supplemental appropriations act, section 601 of this act is null and void."
