     On page 1, beginning on line 4 of the amendment, after "Sec. 12." strike everything through "fiscal year 1997." on line 10 of the amendment and insert "The superintendent of public instruction shall expend two million eight hundred thousand dollars of its existing general fund-state appropriation contained within laws of 1995 2nd. sp.sess. c 18 s 501, to enhance the school security grant program consistent with the conditions specified in laws of 1995 2nd sp.sess. c 18 s 501(1)(f), as amended by the 1996 supplemental operating budget for fiscal year 1997, except that these additional funds may be used to enhance security for any grade level."

EFFECT:  Language authorizing an additional appropriation of $2.8 million is stricken and replaced with a directive to OSPI to use $2.8 million of the existing general-fund state appropriation from the OSPI office budget to enhance the school security grant program.
