     On page 1, line 12, after "bus." insert "The categories shall be developed to produce minimum long range operating costs, including costs of equipment and all costs in operating the vehicles.  The categories, for purposes of comparative studies, will be at a minimum the same as those in the beginning of the 1994-95 school year."

EFFECT:  In preparing the specifications for the buses to be bid by bus dealers, the Office Superintendent of Public Instruction is to consult with the Educational Service District's transportation coordinators to ensure the state bid bus meets the needs of local school bus operations.  Categories (bus sizes) will be the same as 1994-95 to ensure valid comparisons of the new approach.  The Legislative Budget Committee is to take the lead in preparing the study of the effectiveness of this change in the basis of reimbusement for school bus purchases by local school districts.
