HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 95-4690, by Representative Regala
WHEREAS, It is the policy of the Washington State Legislature to recognize excellence in all fields of endeavor; and
WHEREAS, It is the mission of the March of Dimes to prevent birth defects and infant mortality; and
WHEREAS, The March of Dimes was the first nonprofit organization to use the Walk-a-Thon to raise money; and
WHEREAS, Saturday, April 29th marks the 25th Anniversary of the March of Dimes WalkAmerica, which will take place in 1,400 communities across the country, including events in Thurston, Mason, Pierce, King, Snohomish, Skagit, Clallam, Kitsap, Island, and Whatcom counties; and
WHEREAS, Robert Sorenson has unselfishly served the citizens of the great state of Washington with his participation in the March of Dimes Walk-a-Thon for the past 18 years, training up to five to ten miles a day; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Robert and Lady "The Wonder Dog" have raised over $312,000, including $44,000 last year alone to pay for research into cures for birth defects; and
WHEREAS, For the past three years Robert and Lady have been the top fund-raisers in the nation and are well on the way toward maintaining that title this year; and
WHEREAS, Robert's tireless dedication and organization has inspired others to see how much money they could raise for the March of Dimes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the State of Washington honor Robert Sorenson and his dog Lady for their service and contributions to the citizens of Washington and for the outstanding example of inspiration and dedication that he has set for others; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to Bobby Sorenson and the March of Dimes.
