Increasing the hourly minimum wage.



    AN ACT Relating to the minimum hourly wage; amending RCW 49.46.020 and 49.46.020; providing effective dates; and providing an expiration date.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    Sec. 1.  RCW 49.46.020 and 1993 c 309 s 1 are each amended to read as follows:

    (1) Every employer shall pay to each of his or her employees who has reached the age of eighteen years wages at a rate of not less than ((four)) five dollars and ((ninety)) twenty-five cents per hour.

    (2) The director shall by regulation establish the minimum wage for employees under the age of eighteen years.

 

    Sec. 2.  RCW 49.46.020 and 1993 c 309 s 1 are each amended to read as follows:

    (1) Every employer shall pay to each of his or her employees who has reached the age of eighteen years wages at a rate of not less than ((four)) five dollars and ((ninety)) forty-three cents per hour.

    (2) The director shall by regulation establish the minimum wage for employees under the age of eighteen years.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.  (1) Section 1 of this act shall take effect January 1, 1996;

    (2) Section 2 of this act shall take effect January 1, 1997.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 4.  Section 1 of this act shall expire January 1, 1997.
