Authorizing the payment of property taxes by credit card.

    AN ACT Relating to authorizing the payment of property taxes by credit card; and adding a new section to chapter 84.56 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 84.56 RCW to read as follows:

    The county treasurer may, in his or her discretion, accept payment of property taxes by credit card and may collect a processing charge not to exceed five percent of the tax being paid to cover any charges deducted by the issuer of the card and any other extraordinary costs related to receiving payment by this means.  The county treasurer may adopt reasonable procedures and requirements to avoid the fraudulent use of credit cards and any attendant risk to the county.
