     On page 3, after line 26, insert the following:

ANEW SECTION. Sec. 5.   Through its authority under RCW 28A.305.130 to approve professional preparation programs in institutions of higher education, the state board of education shall ensure that prospective candidates for the alternative certification process under sections 1 through 4 of this act are permitted to challenge required college courses in the professional preparation program.@

On page 4, line 37, after Athrough@ strike A4" and insert A5"

Renumber the remaining sections consecutively and correct any internal references accordingly.

EFFECT: Using its authority to approve professional preparation programs, The State Board of Education will make sure that candidates for alternative certification can challenge required professional preparation courses offered by colleges and universities.
