     On page 10, after line 17, insert the following:

ANEW SECTION. Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.630 RCW to read as follows:

     Pursuant to RCW 28A.630.885(3)(iii), the assessment system and essential academic learning requirements for arts, health, and fitness at the middle and high school levels are indefinitely delayed until legislation is adopted reinstating assessments and essential academic learning requirements in those subjects.@

Renumber the remaining sections consecutively and correct the title and any internal references accordingly.

EFFECT:  Arts assessments at the middle and high school levels will not be available by the 2000-01 school year.  Health and fitness assessments for middle and high school levels will not be available by the 2001-02 school year.  The requirements to adopt assessments and essential academic learning requirements in those subjec ts is indefinitely delayed pending further legislative action.  Therefore, school districts will not be required to participate in the assessments.
