Committee Activity:  Health & Long‑Term Care:  1/27/98.

SENATE COMMITTEE ON HEALTH & LONG-TERM CARE

Staff:  Rhoda Jones (786-7198)

Background:  In 1996, the Legislature granted the Department of Health (DOH) authority to establish uniform administrative procedures and requirements for the credentialing process across all health professions.  Some of the activities DOH sought to make more consistent were license application forms, personal data questionnaires, license renewal periods, and the scheduling of exams.

The legislation had a two-year sunset provision of this authority.

Due to the scope and complexity of the rules, the department has included many parties, boards and commissions in the process.  Concern has been expressed that more time is needed to complete the process.

Summary of Bill:  The sunset date is changed from 1998 to 1999.

Appropriation:  None.

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
