AN ACT Relating to the state fossil; adding a new section to chapter 1.20 RCW; and creating a new section.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The legislature recognizes that the large, hairy prehistoric elephants of the extinct genus Mammuthus roamed the north American continent, including the Pacific Northwest, during the Pleistocene epoch (Ice Ages).
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. A new section is added to chapter 1.20 RCW to read as follows:
The Columbian mammoth of North America, Mammuthus COLUMBI, is hereby designated as the official fossil of the state of Washington.
