Requiring the consideration of duties when institutions of higher education set staffing levels for their police forces.

    AN ACT Relating to police forces at institutions of higher education; and amending RCW 28B.10.550.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

    Sec. 1.  RCW 28B.10.550 and 1977 ex.s. c 169 s 24 are each amended to read as follows:

(1) The boards of regents of the state universities, and the boards of trustees of the regional universities or of The Evergreen State College, acting independently and each on behalf of its own institution:

    (((1))) (a) May each establish a police force for its own institution, which force shall function under such conditions and regulations as the board prescribes; and

    (((2))) (b) May supply appropriate badges and uniforms indicating the positions and authority of the members of such police force.

(2) Each institution that has or establishes a police force shall consider the duties of the police force when determining staffing levels.
